Abstract

Looking ahead, quantum computing threatens to shatter the cryptographic methods
employed on SAP and other ERP systems that uphold their security. In this paper, we look
over the future threats arising from quantum computing, in particular taking a peek at their
impact on current encryption methods. The paper discusses the development and derivatives
of quantum safe schemes for prevailing ERP data while enabling long term security in a post
quantum arena. The article covers the current requirement for quantum secure algorithms, the
issues around migrating to new cryptographic standards and what this could mean in terms of
regulation for US and European companies. This paper provides an overview of key quantum
resistant technologies and a roadmap for organizations looking to protect their mission
critical systems from advanced, quantum based threats in the near future.
